Exploring practical, fisher-friendly technologies and innovations designed to improve the environmental, economic and operational performance of Caribbean fisheries. The session will highlight field-tested approaches to reducing bycatch and discards, protecting endangered, threatened and protected species, addressing abandoned, lost and otherwise discarded fishing gear, and improving fishing efficiency, safety at sea and economic viability.
Bringing together fishers, scientists, fisheries managers, policymakers, technology developers and project partners, the session will share lessons from applied research, field trials and solutions developed with fishers across the Caribbean.

Future-Proofing Fisheries: Resources, Resilience, and Tradition
GCFI79 will bring together fishers, scientists, fisheries managers, policymakers, students and regional partners to exchange knowledge and advance practical solutions for the sustainable use, conservation and management of marine resources.
This year’s theme, “Future-Proofing Fisheries: Resources, Resilience, and Tradition,” highlights the need to protect the resources on which fisheries depend, strengthen the ability of fishing communities to respond to change, and recognise the knowledge and traditions that continue to shape Caribbean fisheries.
Priorities that lie at the heart of REBYC-III CLME+ and EAF4SG as the projects works towards shaping a future in which healthy marine ecosystems, resilient fishing livelihoods and thriving coastal communities can be sustained together over the long term.
