A comprehensive approach to fisheries management
EAF4SG supports the adoption and implementation of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries in the shrimp and groundfish fisheries of the North Brazil Shelf Large Marine Ecosystem. The project focuses on Guyana, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago, where these fisheries are deeply tied to livelihoods, food systems and marine ecosystems.
The project responds to the need for stronger governance, better knowledge and more integrated fisheries management in fisheries that are both economically important and ecologically sensitive. In this context, EAF4SG helps move fisheries management beyond a narrow focus on catches alone and toward a wider understanding of ecosystems, people and long-term sustainability.
